I have often been asked to run classes… so over time they have formed into a format that I think works well. All classes are run on a domestic sewing machine and no special feet or tools required – providing you have a darning foot or open toe foot – you’re good to go.
Free Motion Workshop
This is a class for those just starting their quilting journey… maybe played a little with free motion but not feeling that confident. The object for the day is to have fun playing with free motion quilting no matter what level participants start at. BUT fair warning… there is no unpicking – so leave the stitch ripper at home… and no quilt police… we’re not going to stress if our quilting goes for a wander or how far apart our stitches are… these things will all come with practice. This is a guided playtime where you can work at your own pace and find your own groove.
Along with some good basic quilting designs, we’ll talk about all things quilting, machine care and different methods of marking quilts. While you won’t go home with a completed piece, you will go home with a whole heap more in your tool box and my aim is with more confidence to keep going! This is a skill building workshop.
Free Motion 007 – Licenced to Play
The object of the day is to have fun expanding your free motion knowledge and going home at the end of the day with a few more skills in tool box. Once again – there is no unpicking… and you will work at your own quilting happy pace.
We will start the day looking at the quilt design process and putting together a quilting plan – what to do if you have no idea what to quilt, and we will cover some quilting fills that you can make as simple or complex as you want.
For this class, your preparation will be to make a small quilt with a simple block and lots of room to play. What you put in that space if the journey we will cover in class.
Feathers and Flora
A focus on feathers, no back track feathers, heirloom or hump and bump feathers, continuous feathers, feathers within shapes… and by extension, add in leaves and flora, which follow a similar theme.
This is a follow on from the Free Motion Workshop. It is expected that you will have a degree of comfort and be able to complete a teardrop shape or paisley going in different directions. You don’t have to be expert – but after a day of practicing you will feel much more confident with these curvy shapes.
Once again, you won’t go home with a completed piece but you will go home with fabric full of ideas and samples.
